Keep Your Pet Healthy with Regular Worming and Heartworm Prevention
Worming is an essential part of maintaining your pet’s health, helping to prevent common intestinal parasites as well as heartworm disease. We offer a range of effective de-worming products, including basic all-wormers and combination treatments that also target fleas and ear mites.
Worming and Heartworm
Prevention for Dogs
Heartworm prevention should begin at 12 weeks of age and continue throughout your dog’s life. Dogs not currently on heartworm prevention will need to be tested before starting medication. Heartworm preventatives come in convenient daily or monthly tablet forms.
Dogs require protection against multiple intestinal worms including Roundworm, Hookworm, Whipworm, and Tapeworm. Since puppies can be infected before birth, they should be given puppy worming syrup at 2, 3, and 4 weeks old. Following this, they receive a broad-spectrum wormer at 6 weeks and again at 3 months. Dogs older than 3 months should be wormed every 3 months routinely. If heavy worm infestations are suspected, more frequent treatment may be needed.
Pregnant female dogs (bitches) should be wormed at 6 weeks into pregnancy, 3 weeks after giving birth, and at weaning to reduce the risk of passing infections to their puppies.
Prevention for Cats
Regular worming is important to control intestinal worms in cats. Kittens should be treated for Roundworm and Hookworm every two weeks until 12 weeks old. After this, all cats should receive worming treatments targeting Roundworm, Hookworm, and Tapeworm every 3 months.
While heartworm infection is rare in cats, preventative options are available and may be recommended based on risk.
