Health Evaluation
Regular health evaluations help us catch problems early—before they become serious. At myVet, we focus on preventative care to keep your pets healthier for longer.
Why Regular Checkups Matter
Routine vet visits are one of the best ways to detect health issues early—when they’re usually simpler and more cost-effective to manage.
Whether your dog is active at the park or your cat prefers a quiet spot in the sun, every pet benefits from an annual health check. For older pets (10 years and up), we recommend checkups every six months to monitor common age-related conditions like arthritis, dental disease, and skin or coat changes.
Keep in mind—pets age faster than humans. Skipping a yearly checkup could be the equivalent of not seeing a doctor for over five years.
And checkups aren’t just about vaccines. During a routine exam, your vet will perform a comprehensive assessment from head to tail, looking for any signs of illness, discomfort, or early changes that might need attention.
Your vet will weigh your pet and assess their overall body condition. Even slight changes in weight—up or down—can point to underlying health concerns such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or nutritional imbalances. Maintaining a healthy weight is also key to joint and heart health.
Clear, bright eyes are a sign of good health. Your vet checks for any cloudiness, redness, discharge, or changes in pupil size that might indicate infections, cataracts, glaucoma, or other eye diseases—some of which progress quickly without early signs.
Pets, especially those with floppy ears, can be prone to infections or mite infestations. Your vet will inspect the ear canal for redness, wax build-up, foul odour, or signs of irritation. Caught early, ear issues can often be treated quickly and painlessly.
Dental health is a vital part of your pet’s wellbeing. Your vet will check for tartar, plaque, gum inflammation (gingivitis), broken teeth, and signs of dental pain. Left untreated, dental disease can affect the heart, kidneys, and liver.
Using a stethoscope, your vet will listen to your pet’s heartbeat and breathing. Any unusual sounds, such as heart murmurs or crackling in the lungs, can be early indicators of heart disease, respiratory issues, or fluid buildup.
A healthy coat should be shiny and free from bald patches, flakes, or excessive shedding. Skin checks help identify issues like allergies, fleas, ticks, fungal infections, or hormonal imbalances that may be affecting your pet’s appearance or comfort.
As pets age, joint stiffness and arthritis become more common. Your vet will gently manipulate the limbs to check for signs of discomfort, reduced range of motion, or lameness. Early intervention can help maintain mobility and reduce pain.
By feeling your pet’s abdomen, your vet can assess organ size and check for any unusual lumps, pain, or swelling. This simple hands-on exam can reveal issues with the liver, kidneys, intestines, or bladder.
Enlarged lymph nodes can signal infection, inflammation, or in rare cases, more serious conditions like cancer. Your vet will examine the key lymph node areas in the neck, shoulders, and hind legs.
A quick rectal thermometer reading helps rule out fever or infection. While it’s not the most glamorous part of a checkup, it’s an essential step in spotting illness before outward symptoms appear.
Your vet will review your pet’s vaccination status and discuss whether they’re up to date on core and lifestyle-specific vaccines. They’ll also advise on parasite control—fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal worms—based on your pet’s environment and habits.
Have you noticed changes in your pet’s appetite, sleep, toilet habits, or energy levels? Subtle shifts in behaviour can signal early health problems. Your vet will ask the right questions to help uncover anything out of the ordinary.
A Healthier Life Starts with a Simple Visit
Your pet can’t tell you when something feels off—but a vet can often pick up on the signs long before symptoms become obvious. A checkup is one of the best ways to protect your pet’s health and happiness for years to come.
